Antes de que Jesús ascendiera al cielo para estar con el Padre, él les dejó a sus discípulos una enorme tarea. Jesús les dijo: "vayan y hagan discípulos a todas las naciones”. Esencialmente, Jesús les estaba pidiendo que comenzaran una comunidad mundial de personas unidas por una simple pero profunda verdad, que Jesús era el salvador resucitado, el Mesías, el hijo del Dios viviente.

Puedo imaginarme los rostros de aquellos once. “Muchachos, tomen esta tarea y hagan todo lo que puedan para lograrla. Ya no me verán más, pero yo estaré con ustedes. Se los prometo." ¿Jesús, qué quieres decir? ¿Necesitamos contarle a todo el mundo acerca de ti, convencerlos, persuadirlos, enseñarles? ¡Nosotros mismos ni siquiera estamos tan seguros de esto! ¿Nos puedes enviar un manual de instrucciones? ¿Dónde empezamos?

Como líder, ¿no te sientes así a veces? Señor, ¿cómo le puedo hablar sobre ti a niños, a padres, a jóvenes y adultos? Jesús, como puedo lograr que aquellos dentro y fuera de la iglesia entiendan la diferencia que puedes hacer en sus vidas y tomen un paso hacia ti?

Jesús sabía que lo que le estaba pidiendo a sus discípulos era imposible si él no aparecía, y era imposible si ellos no aparecían. Les indicó que esperaran en una habitación durante unos días hasta que recibieran poder. Y cuando llegó el día de Pentecostés, Jesús les envió un regalo extraordinario, una habilidad sobrenatural que ayudaría a transformar el mundo. Pero no era la habilidad de volar, caminar sobre el agua o disparar rayos de sus manos. El poder del Espíritu Santo descendió sobre los discípulos en forma de lenguas de fuego y recibieron la habilidad sobrenatural de comunicarse en múltiples idiomas.

¡Y de que manera comunicaron! Yo diría que se apasionaron por la comunicación, y sus esfuerzos de comunicación combinados con su colaboración resultaron en una comunidad de creyentes creciente, próspera e irresistible que se extendió por todo el mundo.

¿Qué ha cambiado desde entonces hasta ahora?

¿Qué ha cambiado en cuanto a la tarea de esos primeros discípulos de edificar esta comunidad, y nuestra tarea de continuar lo que ellos empezaron?

Ellos se enfrentaron a muchos obstáculos: amenazas, escepticismo, dudas, opiniones opuestas sobre Dios, brujería, serpientes, mal tiempo, problemas financieros, distancia física, inmoralidad, violencia, barreras de idioma, barreras culturales, barreras sociales, falta de atención (¡un hombre se durmió, se cayó de la silla y murió durante uno de los sermones de Pablo!).

Mucho ha cambiado desde entonces, pero muchas cosas son iguales. Todos hemos sido encomendados con la responsabilidad de comunicar el Evangelio con el fin de crecer esta comunidad de creyentes, pero enfrentamos los mismos problemas y barreras a la comunicación que enfrentó la iglesia primitiva. Tenemos más medios de comunicación que nunca antes, sin embargo, no parece que nuestra comunicación esté funcionando como debería funcionar. Como la mayoría de las iglesias, somos una iglesia trabajadora, pero en términos de nuestra comunicación es como si estuviéramos tratando de cortar un árbol con un hacha sin filo.

Necesitamos afilar nuestra hacha de comunicación.

Cada semana escuchamos historias de personas nuevas que entran en contacto con nuestra iglesia, ya sea en persona un domingo, un viernes por la noche o incluso en línea, y les encanta la experiencia. El problema es, ¿se están convirtiendo en discípulos? ¿Se están arraigando en Cristo? ¿Arraigados en esta comunidad? Ese es uno de nuestros mayores retos, y en realidad tiene mucho que ver con la comunicación.

Déjame explicar.

Para que la comunicación se lleve a cabo, debe haber un emisario, un receptor y un mensaje que se transfiere. Pero eso por sí solo no es una comunicación efectiva. El hecho de que hayas transmitido tus ideas o información a otra persona no significa que tu comunicación haya sido efectiva.

Ese tipo de comunicación es una transacción, pero no es relacional, y no es eficaz para ayudarnos a alcanzar nuestra meta de crear una comunidad de personas unidas por su fe en Cristo y el amor de Cristo. Se supone que la iglesia sea una comunidad donde las personas son amadas y cuidadas, donde se les da la nutrición espiritual adecuada y los pasos adecuados que deben tomar para crecer. Esto no se puede lograr simplemente transfiriendo información.

¿Cómo afilamos esta hacha de comunicación?

Nuestra comunicación debe crear acciones a través de la interacción.

PPedro predicó y 3,000 se convirtieron. Felipe le comunicó el Evangelio al eunuco etíope y de inmediato se bautizó. Pablo escribió cartas y pudo alentar y edificar iglesias de manera remota en ciudades fuera del mundo judío.

Nuestra comunicación debe crear acciones a través de la interacción, pero para lograr eso, el enfoque de la comunicación debe cambiar.

Dentro del contexto de guiar a las personas en una relación creciente con Jesucristo, necesitamos practicar algo llamado Comunicación Activa. La comunicación activa es comunicación que no sólo da información, sino que también conduce a una persona a involucrarse más y arraigarse más en la comunidad, que es la iglesia.

Este es un ejemplo sencillo. Una persona nueva entra por nuestras puertas y pregunta: “¿Dónde está el baño? " Podemos comunicarnos pasivamente y decirle, "al final del pasillo ya la izquierda", o podemos comunicarnos activamente y decir: "Sígueme, con mucho gusto te muestro donde queda". En esos pocos pasos hacia el baño puedes intercambiar nombres o aprender algo sobre la persona, algo que podría generar más conversación más adelante.

La comunicación activa entiende que hay un destino donde queremos llevar a cada persona (pertenecer a la comunidad), y que hay muchos posibles pasos entre medio para llegar hasta allí. Y cada interacción que tenemos es una oportunidad para guiar a alguien a dar uno de esos pasos.

Piense en estas interacciones que Jesús tuvo con la gente: cuando dijo a sus discípulos: “Dejad que los niños vengan a mí”, la mujer con el flujo de la sangre, cuando Jesús se invitó a la casa de Zaqueo. Todos resultaron en que alguien se acercara a Jesús. Ese es nuestro objetivo, y Dios nos ha dado el poder de comunicarnos para lograrlo.

Prepara tu comunicación activa

La comunicación activa quizás no sea algo natural para nosotros. Para mejorar como lo hacemos es importante estar preparados. Piensa en escenarios típicos que a menudo encuentras durante el desempeño de tu ministerio. Piensa en nuestro objetivo: crear una comunidad auténtica donde las personas son atendidas. Piensa en nuestra misión y nuestro mensaje central: guiar a personas en una relación creciente con Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios que murió y resucitó para salvarnos. Considera cómo puedes implementar nuestra estrategia de Comunicación Activa para ayudar a las personas que lideras a dar un paso en seguir a Jesús. Además, recuerda lo que debería ser el resultado final de tu comunicación: beneficiar al que escucha, y ayudarle a crecer de acuerdo a sus necesidades.

Imagínate en diferentes escenarios, conversaciones con personas de adentro, personas de afuera, miembros de tu equipo ministerial. ¿Cuál es un paso simple que pueden dar para arraigarse más en Cristo y en la comunidad de creyentes? Puede ser inscribirse para un evento, completar una tarjeta de peticiones de oración, seguirnos en las redes sociales, asistir a una clase de bautismo, inscribirse para ser voluntario o unirse a un pequeño grupo. Cuanto más practiques la comunicación activa en tus pensamientos, más fácil será ejecutarla en escenarios en vivo, como en una llamada telefónica, un mensaje escrito, en persona o en un escenario.

Cuando ingreses a cualquier ambiente de la iglesia, en una reunión pequeña o incluso en tu vida diaria, recuerda que se te ha dado la responsabilidad de comunicar el mensaje más importante en la historia. El lograr esto es un gran desafío en esta generación, pero Jesús todavía está con nosotros. Él todavía tiene toda la autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra, y todavía tenemos un poder extraordinario, dado por Dios, para comunicarnos a fin de guiar a las personas en una relación creciente con nuestro Salvador resucitado, Jesucristo.

October 2022 | Active Communication

Before Jesus ascended to Heaven to be with the Father, he left his disciples a huge task. He told them, “go and make disciples of all nations”. Essentially, Jesus was asking them to start a worldwide community of people joined by one simple yet profound truth, that Jesus was the risen savior, the Messiah, the son of the living God.

I can just imagine the look on the faces of those eleven guys. “Here guys, take this task and run with it. You won’t see me anymore, but I’ll be with you. I promise.” What do you mean Jesus? We need to tell the whole world about you, convince them, persuade them, teach them? We’re not even so sure about this ourselves! Can you send us a manual for this? Where do we start?

As a leader don’t you feel that way sometimes? Lord, how do I talk to kids, parents, youth, and adults about you? Jesus, how can I get those inside and outside the church to see the difference you can make in their lives and take the necessary steps towards following you?

Jesus knew that what he was asking his disciples was impossible if he didn’t show up, and it was impossible if they didn’t show up. He instructed them to wait in a room for a few days until they’d receive some sort of power. Then the day of Pentecost came, and Jesus sent them an extraordinary gift, a supernatural ability that would help them transform the world. But it wasn’t the ability to fly, or walk on water, or shoot lightning bolts out of their hands. The power of the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples in the form of flaming tongues and they received the supernatural ability to communicate in multiple languages.

And boy did they communicate! I’d say they became passionate about communicating, and their communication efforts combined with their collaboration resulted in a growing, thriving, irresistible community of believers that spread throughout the world.

What has changed from then until now?

What has changed as far as their task of building this community in the first century, and our task of continuing what they started?

They faced many obstacles: threats, skepticism, doubt, opposing views about God, witchcraft, snakes, bad weather, financial troubles, physical distance, immorality, violence, language barriers, cultural barriers, social barriers, and lack of attention (a man fell asleep, fell off his chair and died during one of Paul’s sermons!).

A lot has changed since then, but many things are the same. We’ve all been charged with the responsibility to communicate the Gospel in order to build this community of believers, but we face the same issues and barriers to communication that the early church faced. We have more means of communication than ever before, yet our communication doesn’t seem to be working as well as it should. Like most churches, we are a hard-working church, but in terms of our communication, it’s like we’re trying to chop down a tree with a dull ax.

We need to sharpen our communication ax

Every week we’re hearing stories of people encountering our church community whether in person on a Sunday, on a Friday night, or even online, and loving it. The problem is, are they becoming disciples? Are they becoming rooted in Christ? Rooted in this community? That’s one of our biggest challenges, and it actually has a lot to do with communication.

Let me explain.

For communication to take place there needs to be a sender, a recipient, and a message that is transferred. But that alone is not effective communication. The fact that you transmitted your ideas or information to another person doesn’t mean that your communication was effective.

That type of communication is a transaction but it's not relational, and it’s not effective in helping us reach our goal of building a community of people united by their faith in Christ and the love of Christ. The church is supposed to be a community where people are loved and cared for, where they are given the proper spiritual nutrition and the proper steps they need to take for growth. This can’t be accomplished by simply transferring information.

How do we sharpen this communication ax?

Our communication should create actions through interaction.

Peter preached and 3,000 were saved. Philip communicated the Gospel to the Ethiopian eunuch and he immediately got baptized. Paul wrote letters and was able to remotely encourage and build up churches in cities outside of the Jewish world.

Our communication should create actions through interaction, but in order to accomplish that, our approach to communication needs to change.

Within the context of leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, we need to practice something called Active Communication. Active communication is communication that not only provides information but leads a person towards becoming more engaged and rooted in the church community.

Here’s a simple example. Someone new might walk through our doors and ask, “Where’s the restroom?” We can passively communicate and tell them, “down the hall and to the left.”, or we can actively communicate and say, “Follow me, I’d be glad to take you there.” In those few steps toward the restroom, you might exchange names, or learn something about the person, something that could spark further conversation later on.

Active Communication understands that there’s a destination where we want to lead every person to (belonging to the community), and that there are many possible steps in-between to get them there. And every interaction we have is an opportunity to lead someone to take one of those steps.

Think of these interactions that Jesus had with people: when he told his disciples, “let the children come to me”, the woman with the issue of blood, and when Jesus invited himself to hang out with Zacchaeus. They all resulted in someone getting closer to Jesus. That is our goal, and God has given us the power to communicate in order to accomplish it.

Prepare your active communication

Active communication may not come naturally to us. To become better at it, it’s important to be prepared. Get in the habit of thinking through typical ministry scenarios that you often encounter. Think about our objective: to create a genuine community where people are cared for. Think about our mission and our core message: leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God who died and resurrected to save us. Consider how you can implement our strategy of Active Communication to help the people you lead take a step toward following Jesus. Also, remember the end result of your communication: to benefit the listener, and build them up according to their needs.

Walk and talk yourself through different scenarios … conversations with insiders, outsiders, members of your ministry team. What is a simple step they can take towards becoming more rooted in Christ and in the community of believers? It can be signing up for an event, filling out a prayer request card, following us on social media, attending a baptism class, signing up to volunteer or joining a small group. The more you practice active communication in your thoughts, the easier it will be to execute it in live scenarios such as a phone call, a written message, in-person, or on stage.

When you walk into any church environment, in a small gathering or even in your daily life, remember that you’ve been given the responsibility to communicate the most important message in history. Accomplishing this is a huge challenge in our generation, but Jesus is still with us. He still has all authority in heaven and on earth, and we still have an extraordinary God-given power to communicate in order to lead people in a growing relationship with our risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

Como líderes de CDA Miami, comenzamos cada año con una meta simple, la meta de ser mejores como iglesia. Pero la verdad es que el objetivo final no es simplemente mejorar, sino alcanzar ser una iglesia extraordinaria. Convertirse en una organización extraordinaria no es solo el resultado de hacer las cosas mejores, es el resultado de buscar constantemente formas de hacerlo aún mejor. No es simplemente conformarnos con nuestras mejoras recientes, sino más bien es estar en esa búsqueda constante preguntándonos continuamente, ¿cómo podemos seguir mejorando?

El problema es que lo que nos haya motivado e inspirado a mejorar no será suficiente para llevarnos a ser una organización extraordinaria. Si algún día vamos a alcanzar el objetivo final de convertirnos en una iglesia extraordinaria, vamos a necesitar más que motivación e inspiración, vamos a necesitar ser disciplinados. La diferencia entre mejor y extraordinario es la disciplina. La motivación nos pondrá en marcha, pero es la disciplina la que determinará si seremos una buena iglesia o una iglesia extraordinaria.

¿Qué es la disciplina? Pídele a diez personas que te definan lo que es la disciplina y probablemente obtendrás diez respuestas diferentes. Permíteme darte una definición muy simple y estrecha de lo que quiero decir con disciplina. La disciplina es el compromiso de decir sí a una cosa y no a todo lo demás. Siempre habrán tentaciones, distracciones, oportunidades, desánimo y fatiga, pero la disciplina nos hace priorizar una cosa sobre todas las demás. Un concepto simple pero difícil de implementar consistentemente. Pero es la disciplina lo que vamos a necesitar cuando la motivación se evapore. Porque es la disciplina la que eventualmente nos llevará a nuestro objetivo final de no solo convertirnos en una mejor iglesia sino en una iglesia extraordinaria.

La disciplina no es una cualidad con la que ninguno de nosotros nace, es una cualidad que se tiene que aprender y desarrollar. En el primer capítulo del libro de Proverbios, Salomón escribe:

Estos son los proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel. El propósito de los proverbios es enseñar sabiduría y disciplina, y ayudar a las personas a comprender la inteligencia de los sabios. Su propósito es enseñarles a vivir una vida disciplinada y exitosa… – Proverbios 1: 1-3 NTV

¿Cómo aprendemos y desarrollamos la disciplina? Primero, debemos aprender a ser sabios. Una persona sabia es la que no solo sabe lo que es correcto, sino que también hace lo que es correcto. No se trata de cuánto sabes, sino de lo que haces con lo que sabes. Segundo, a medida que practicas ser una persona sabia, vas a comenzar a desarrollar disciplina. Porque la sabiduría siempre te llevará a decir sí a una cosa y no a todo lo demás. Desarrollar la disciplina es como desarrollar tus músculos, inicialmente vas a necesitar la cooperación de otros músculos para desarrollar aquellos que no has desarrollado. La sabiduría es el músculo que nos ayuda a desarrollar el músculo no desarrollado de la disciplina en nuestras vidas.

La disciplina se desarrolla dentro del marco de la libertad y la responsabilidad. La libertad te permite hacer lo que quieras hacer, pero la responsabilidad te obliga a hacer lo que se supone que debes hacer. Por lo tanto, para desarrollar la disciplina en tu vida, tienes que tener tus responsabilidades claramente definidas. Cuando no tenemos responsabilidades claramente definidas, siempre es fácil excusar nuestra irresponsabilidad y también nos permite culpar a otros. Pero cuando nuestras responsabilidades son específicas, eliminamos la opción de dar excusas y culpar a otros. Las responsabilidades claramente definidas son un gran paso hacia una vida disciplinada.

Ser mejores es buenísimo, pero mejor no es nuestro objetivo, convertirnos en una iglesia extraordinaria es nuestro objetivo y extraordinario requiere que siempre busquemos mejorar. Pero la consistencia que conduce a resultados extraordinarios solo se puede lograr a través de vivir vidas disciplinadas.

September 2022 | Discipline

As CDA Miami leaders we should always strive to be and do better as a church. As we look across our organization things have gotten much better in every area. But the truth is that the ultimate goal is not simply to get better, the goal is to become extraordinary. Becoming an extraordinary church is not just the result of doing better it’s the result of consistently seeking ways to do even better. It’s the result of not simply settling into our recent improvements. Instead, it’s the constant pursuit, and continually asking ourselves, how can we do even better that will enable us to become an extraordinary church.

The problem is that the motivation that inspired us to pursue doing better is not going to be enough to lead us to become an extraordinary organization. If we’re ever going to reach the ultimate goal of becoming an extraordinary church we’re going to need more than motivation and inspiration were going to need to become disciplined. The difference between a better organization and an extraordinary organization is discipline. Motivation will get us going but it’s discipline that will determine if we’ll be a good church or an extraordinary church.

What is discipline? Ask ten people to define discipline and you’ll probably end up with ten different answers. Allow me to give you a very simple and narrow definition of what I mean by discipline. Discipline is the commitment to saying yes to the one thing and no to everything else. There will always be temptations, distractions, opportunities, discouragement, and fatigue but discipline causes us to prioritize the one thing over everything else. It’s a simple concept but a difficult one to consistently implement. But it’s discipline that we need to kick in when motivation fades out. And, more importantly, it’s discipline that will eventually lead us to our ultimate goal of not becoming just a better church but rather an extraordinary one.

Discipline is not a quality any one of us is born with it’s a quality that you must learn and develop. In the very first chapter of the Book of Proverbs Solomon writes: These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, King of Israel. Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, – Proverbs 1: 1-3 NLT

How do we learn and develop discipline? First, we must learn to be wise. A wise person is the one who knows what’s right and does what is right. It’s not about how much you know but rather what you do with what you know. Second, as you practice being a wise person you begin to develop discipline. Because wisdom will always lead you to say yes to the one thing and no to everything else. Developing discipline is kind of like developing your physical muscles, initially you’ll need the cooperation of other muscles to build up the undeveloped ones. Wisdom is the muscle that helps us to build the undeveloped muscle of discipline in our lives.

Discipline is built within the framework of freedom and responsibility. Freedom allows you to choose anything you want to do but responsibility causes you to do what you’re supposed to do. Therefore, to develop discipline you’ll need to clearly define your responsibilities. When we don’t have clearly defined responsibilities it’s always easy to excuse our irresponsibility and it also allows us to blame others. But when our responsibilities are specific we eliminate the option to give excuses and blame others. Clearly defined responsibilities are a big step towards living a disciplined life.

Doing better is great but better is not our goal, becoming an extraordinary church is our goal and extraordinary requires that we consistently do better. And the consistency that leads to extraordinary can only be achieved by living disciplined lives.

La pasión y la meta de todo líder es obtener el éxito. Lo que motiva a los líderes más efectivos no es el obtener alguna gloria sino más bien el obtener algún éxito. Recientemente leí un estudio que demuestra que los líderes más exitosos siempre son líderes humildes. Los líderes humildes tienen mayor capacidad para influenciar, atraen más seguidores, ganan más lealtad, confianza, respeto y alcanzan más éxito que aquellos que utilizan su orgullo como base para liderar. Es interesante que cuando pensamos en grandes cualidades de liderazgo, lo primero que nos viene a la mente son los talentos, las habilidades, el carisma y la tenacidad. Pero la verdad es que los líderes humildes son los líderes más efectivos.

El líder humilde

El gran Martin Luther dijo: "Si no tienes nada por lo cual estés dispuesto a morir, no tienes nada por lo cual valga la pena vivir". Un líder humilde siempre es inducido por una causa o un propósito mayor que él o ella. Una causa y un propósito para los cuales el líder no solo está dispuesto a vivir, sino también a entregarse por completo.

Ningún otro líder ejemplifica a un líder humilde más que Jesucristo. La humildad fue su atributo más efectivo como líder. Cuando el apóstol Pablo nos resumió la vida y el ministerio de Jesús, el atributo más impresionante que encontró no fue el conocimiento de Jesús, ni el poder de hacer milagros. El atributo que más impresionó a Pablo en cuanto al liderazgo de Jesús fue su humildad. El apóstol Pablo escribió:

(Jesús) quien, siendo por naturaleza Dios, no consideró el ser igual a Dios como algo a qué aferrarse. Por el contrario, se rebajó voluntariamente, tomando la naturaleza de siervo y haciéndose semejante a los seres humanos. Y, al manifestarse como hombre, se humilló a sí mismo y se hizo obediente hasta la muerte, ¡y muerte de cruz! Por eso Dios lo exaltó hasta lo sumo...

CÓMO CONVERTIRSE EN UN LÍDER HUMILDE

Como líderes el apóstol Pablo nos ordena:

“No hagan nada por egoísmo o vanidad; más bien, con humildad consideren a los demás como superiores a ustedes mismos. Cada uno debe velar no solo por sus propios intereses, sino también por los intereses de los demás. La actitud de ustedes debe ser como la de Cristo Jesús…

- Filipenses 2:3-5 NVI.

No importa cuán dotada o talentosa sea la persona, nunca podrá alcanzar su máximo potencial como líder sin desarrollar una actitud humilde. Aquí te dejo con tres prácticas que si las incorporas a tu liderazgo te convertirán en un líder humilde.

EL LÍDER HUMILDE TIENE UNA ACTITUD DE SERVICIO

Entiende que la clave del liderazgo exitoso es poseer la capacidad de influenciar a otros. Entiende que la influencia aumenta o disminuye según el nivel de la relación. Cuanto más débil es la relación, más débil es la capacidad de influenciar. Cuanto más fuerte es la relación, mayor es la capacidad de influenciar. El líder humilde entiende que la mejor manera de desarrollar una relación sólida es buscando oportunidades para servir a los demás. Cuanto mejor sirvas, mejor será la relación. Cuanto mejor es la relación, mayor es la influencia. Cuanto mayor es la influencia, mayor es el éxito del liderazgo.

EL LÍDER HUMILDE TIENE UNA ACTITUD DE DAR LAS GRACIAS

Entiende que las personas son más productivas cuando se aprecia su trabajo. En un estudio reciente, un investigador dividió aleatoriamente a unos empleados universitarios responsables de recaudar fondos en dos grupos. Cada grupo trabajaba independientemente el uno del otro. El investigador le dio instrucciones al director de recaudación de fondos diciéndole que le expresase gratitud a un grupo y al otro no. Al final de la semana, los trabajadores que habían escuchado el mensaje de agradecimiento realizaron un 50% más de llamadas en comparación con los que no habían escuchado el mensaje de agradecimiento.

EL LÍDER HUMILDE TIENE LA ACTITUD DE MEJORARSE A SÍ MISMO

Entiende que la humildad conduce al crecimiento y que la arrogancia es un impedimento para el crecimiento. A los líderes arrogantes les encanta trabajar en los demás. The leader’s passion and goal is to succeed; to make things better and to do them better. The most effective leaders are not motivated by glory, they’re motivated by progress. Research shows that the most successful leaders are humble leaders. Humble leaders have more, influence, they attract more followers, they earn more loyalty, confidence, respect and achieve more progress than those who rely upon their pride. It’s interesting that when we think of great leadership qualities usually the first thing that comes to mind are talents, abilities, charisma and tenacity. But the truth is that humble leaders are the most effective leaders.

The Humble Leader

The great Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “If you have nothing worth dying for, you’ve got nothing worth living for.” A humble leader is always driven by a cause or purpose greater than him or herself. A cause and a purpose that the leader is not only willing to live for but also to live out his or her life for. No other leader exemplifies humble leadership more than Jesus Christ. It was his greatest asset. When the Apostle Paul summed up Jesus’ life and ministry the attribute that he found most impressive was not Jesus’ knowledge or miracle-working power. The attribute that most impressed Paul was Jesus’ humility. The Apostle Paul:

(Jesus) Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name …

— Philippians 2:6-9 NIV

BECOMING A HUMBLE LEADER

As leaders the apostle Paul commands us;

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…” – Philippians 2:3-5 NIV

No matter how gifted or talented you are you’ll not achieve your fullest potential as a leader without developing a humble attitude. Here are some mindsets you can make a part of your leadership practices that will turn you into a humble leader.

HUMBLE LEADERS HAVE A SERVING ATTITUDE

They understand that the key to successful leadership is to possess the ability to influence others. They understand that influence increases or decreases according to the level of the relationship. The weaker the relationship the weaker the ability to influence. The stronger the relationship the greater the ability to influence. Humble leaders understand that the best way to build a strong relationship is by seeking opportunities to serve others. The better you serve, the better the relationship. The better the relationship, the more the influence. The more the influence, the greater the leadership success

HUMBLE LEADERS HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF APPRECIATION

They understand that people are more productive when their work is appreciated. In a recent study, a researcher randomly divided university fund-raiser employees into two groups. Each group worked independently of the other. The researcher instructed the director of fund-raising to express gratitude to one group and not to the other. By week’s end, the workers who had heard the message of appreciation made 50% more calls than those who did not.

HUMBLE LEADERS HAVE A WORK ON THEMSELVES FIRST ATTITUDE

They understand that humility leads to growth and that arrogance is an impediment to growth. Arrogant leaders love to work on others. But humble leaders prioritize working on themselves first. And working on themselves more than they work on others. They understand that the better they become as leaders, the better the people around them will become.

AS A LEADER ASK YOURSELF:

1. How can you best serve the people you lead?

2. Are you consistently expressing your appreciation to those you lead? How can you specifically express appreciation to them?

3. What have you done to better yourself as a leader over the previous 90 days?

Como líder, tu propósito siempre estará conectado a tu don. En CDA, nuestro propósito ordenado por Dios es de guiar a las personas a una relación creciente con Jesús, una tarea que requiere que sirvamos a los demás a través de los distintos dones que Dios nos ha dado. Algunos de los dones son de naturaleza espiritual, como el don de la sabiduría, el de la fe, el hablar en lenguas e incluso el don de los milagros. También hay dones naturales, como los talentos, las habilidades y los recursos. No importa quién seas, todos hemos recibido algún don de parte de Dios y el propósito principal de cada uno de esos dones es descubrir cómo usarlos para servir a los demás.

Definiendo Lo Que Es Un Don:

En el libro de los Corintios, la palabra “don” es la palabra griega que significa “carisma” o “favor”. Esto quiere decir que un don es un favor gratuito y no merecido que Dios nos ha dado a cada uno de nosotros; no por mérito, si no en base a Su gracia y amor. En este caso, un don es una capacidad, un talento, una habilidad o una dotación que es notable, ya sea espiritual o natural, que tu Padre Celestial te ha dado gratuitamente.

Dotado:

En nuestra cultura, separamos a los niños “dotados” del resto de los niños, tenemos escuelas especiales para ellos. Pero, la verdad es que todos los niños nacen dotados por Dios. Lo mismo ocurre con todo joven, adulto o anciano. Porque Dios nos ha dado a todos una habilidad o recurso natural o espiritual. La razón que separamos los niños dotados del resto es que algunos descubren y sobresalen en sus dones, mientras que otros aún no los han descubierto o no están esforzando mucho para desarrollarlos o usarlos adecuadamente. Pero la verdad es que toda persona nace dotada. Algunos tienen más, otros tienen menos, pero todos estamos dotados; La vida misma es un don. Como líder, el descubrir tus dones le dará significado y propósito a tu vida y el usarlos adecuadamente te llevará a vivir una vida cumplida.

El Uso Apropiado de tus Dones

Un don o regalo por naturaleza viene sin condiciones, de lo contrario no sería un regalo. Lo mismo sucede con Dios, los dones, tanto espirituales como naturales, vienen sin condiciones. Así que, puedes usar los tuyos para cualquier razón que elijas. Pero, aunque los dones de Dios son regalos incondicionales, sí vienen con un propósito específico. Un propósito que puedes elegir cumplir o ignorar. Y, el propósito de cada don es desarrollarlo y usarlo para manifestar a los demás la gracia de Dios a través de tu vida.

Cada uno ponga al servicio de los demás el don que haya recibido, administrando fielmente la gracia de Dios en sus diversas formas. – 1 Pedro 4:10 NVI

El Don No Es Para Ti

En la Biblia hay un principio simple, pero a menudo pasado por alto, y es que se supone que todo lo que Dios nos da lo utilicemos para el beneficio de los demás. Tus dones a la verdad no son para ti. Y, dado que la vida misma es un regalo de Dios, tu vida no es para ti. Tu vida y todo lo que tienes se supone que debes utilizarlo para servir a otros. Que la razón principal por la que has sido dotado no es para el beneficio tuyo sino para el beneficio de otras personas. Este principio es tan frecuente en la Biblia que el apóstol Pablo enseña que incluso cada palabra que hablemos debe beneficiar a los demás. As a leader, your purpose will always be connected to your giftedness. At CDA our God-ordained purpose is to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus, a task that requires that we serve others through the distinct gifts that God has given us. Some gifts are spiritual in nature like the gift of wisdom, faith, speaking in tongues, and even the gift of healing. There are also natural gifts, like talents, abilities, and resources. No matter who you are everyone is gifted and the primary purpose of every gift is to figure out how to best use them to serve others.

Defining a Gift :

In the book of Corinthians, the word “gift” is the Greek word meaning, “charisma” or “favor”. That means that a gift is a free and unmerited favor that God bestows upon everyone based on His loving character and graciousness. In this case, a gift is a notable capacity, talent, ability, or endowment, whether spiritual or natural, that has been freely given to you by your Heavenly Father.

Gifted :

In our culture, we separate the “gifted” children from the rest, we have special schools for them. But, the truth is that all children are gifted. The same is true of every person regardless of age because God has gifted everyone with a natural and or spiritual ability or resource. The reason for separating the gifted children from the rest is because some discover their gift and excel at it, while others have yet discovered their gifts or are not doing much to develop or use them appropriately. But the truth is that everyone is gifted. Some have more others have less but everyone is gifted; life itself is a gift. As a leader, discovering your individual gifts will bring meaning and purpose to your life, and using them appropriately will fulfill your life.

Appropriately using your Gifts

A gift by nature comes with no strings attached otherwise it would not be a gift. The same is true with God; His gifts both spiritual and natural come with no strings attached. So, you get to use yours for any reason you choose to. But, God’s gifts do come with a specific purpose. A purpose that you can choose to fulfill or ignore. And, the purpose of every gift is to develop and use them to manifest God’s grace through you to others.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. – 1 Peter 4:10 NIV

Your Gift Is Not For You

There’s a simple but often times overlooked principle in the Bible, that everything God gives us is supposed to be used to benefit others. Your gift is actually not for you. And, since life itself is a gift from God, your life is not for you. Your life and everything you have is supposed to be to serve others. That the main reason you’ve been gifted is actually not for your benefit but rather to benefit others. This principle is so prevalent in the Bible that the Apostle Paul teaches that even every word that we speak should benefit others and not ourselves. Jesus put it this way, “Freely you have received; freely give.”

As a leader, you will not get very far if you don’t develop and learn how to appropriately use the gifts God has given you. To sum it up, God has gifted everyone for a specific purpose. All gifts are given for the benefit of others. Therefore, your gift should in all ways manifest God’s grace in its various forms.

Un propósito es la razón por la cual algo existe o se hace. Un propósito es un medio a través del cual se logra un fin. Como líderes, nuestro propósito es guiar a las personas a una relación creciente con Jesús. Por lo tanto, no somos el propósito, las personas que lideramos, son el propósito. El problema para la mayoría de los líderes es que quieren ser tanto el medio como el fin. Pero el liderazgo no se trata de nosotros, se trata de las personas que Dios nos ha llamado a liderar; somos los medios y las personas que lideramos son el fin.

Dios nos ha dado a cada uno algo, la vida misma es un regalo. El rey David dijo que Dios les dio a algunas personas más y a otras menos, pero que todo lo que tenemos es un regalo de Dios. Un día, después de recolectar los fondos para construir un templo para el Señor, el Rey David también dijo: “¿Pero quién soy yo, y quién es mi pueblo, para que podamos darte algo a ti? ¡Todo lo que tenemos ha venido de ti, y te damos solo lo que tú primero nos diste!” Hay un principio de todo el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento que a menudo se nos pasa por alto y es que realmente no damos nada, solo transferimos lo que Dios ya ha puesto en nuestras manos. La Biblia dice que todos los dones, naturales y espirituales, se nos dieron no para nuestro beneficio, sino para beneficiar a otros. La Biblia enseña que cada palabra que sale de nuestra boca debería beneficiar a los demás. Y quizás el ejemplo más poderoso de esto es ver a Jesús utilizando toda su sabiduría, poder y gloria para beneficiar a otros, lavando los pies de sus discípulos a sabiendas de que Judas lo traicionaría, que Pedro lo negaría y que el resto de los discípulos lo abandonarían. Y como si esto no fuese suficiente, horas después, voluntariamente dio su vida por ellos. Nuevamente, somos los medios, no somos el fin. No se trata de recibir, se trata de dar.

Da con generosidad y serás más rico; sé tacaño y lo perderás todo. Proverbios 11:24 NVI.

Los líderes efectivos entienden el poder de dar, entienden que nunca tendrán suficiente para satisfacer todas las necesidades, pero también entienden que cuanto más dan, más Dios se los repone para que puedan seguir dando. Como líderes, nuestro enfoque nunca debe estar en recibir, nuestro enfoque debe estar en dar.

Dos áreas importantes para enfocar tus donaciones:

1. Tiempo – tus talentos y habilidades no son beneficiosos para el cuerpo de Cristo a menos que separes el tiempo para usarlos en beneficio de otros y dentro del contexto de guiar a las personas a una relación creciente con Jesús. El problema con el tiempo es que no puedes recuperar el tiempo perdido.

2. Dinero - tu corazón siempre seguirá a tu dinero. Jesús dijo, “porque adonde está tu dinero, allí estará tu corazón”. La Biblia nos enseña que Dios es nuestro proveedor y la Biblia también nos enseña que con Su provisión recibimos pan para comer y semillas para sembrar para que podamos producir una gran cosecha de generosidad.

Dios, que da la semilla que se siembra y el alimento que se come, les dará a ustedes todo lo necesario para su siembra, y la hará crecer, y hará que la generosidad de ustedes produzca una gran cosecha. – 2 Corintios 9:10 DHH.

El rey David, los líderes y el pueblo dieron de su dinero y su tiempo generosamente para construir un templo para Dios. Y Dios en esta generación nos ha llamado a dar generosamente de nuestro tiempo y dinero para construir la iglesia de Jesucristo. El templo es una estructura física, la iglesia es una reunión de personas. El propósito del rey David era construirle un templo a Dios, aunque Dios no habita en templos humanos. Nuestro propósito es construir la iglesia de Jesucristo, una reunión formada por hombres y mujeres con los que Dios quiere morar. Si el rey David y el pueblo estuvieron dispuestos a ser el medio para lograr el fin de construir un templo para Dios. ¿No deberíamos ser al menos igual de generosos con nuestro tiempo y dinero para convertirnos en el medio a través del cual se construye la iglesia de Jesucristo?

“It is more blessed to give than to receive." – Jesus

A purpose is the reason for which something exists or is done. A purpose is a means to achieve an end. As Leaders, our purpose is to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus. Therefore, we are not the purpose; the people we lead, they are the purpose. The problem for most leaders is that they want to be both the means and the end. But leadership is not about us it’s about the people God has called us to lead; we are the means and the people we lead are the end.

God has given everyone something; life itself is a gift. King David said that God gave some people more and others less, but that everything we have is a gift from God. After collecting the funds to build a temple for the Lord, King David also said: “But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!” There is an often-overlooked principle throughout the Old and New Testament and that is that we don’t really give anything, we only pass along what God has placed in our hands. And more importantly, what God placed in our hands was placed there in order for us to benefit others. That we are not the purpose for the gift instead we are the means through which God wants to distribute the gift.

The Bible says that all gifts, natural and spiritual were given not for our benefit but rather to benefit others. The Bible teaches that every word that comes out of our mouths should benefit others. And perhaps the most powerful example of this is Jesus using all of his wisdom, power, and glory to benefit others by washing the feet of his disciples knowing full well that Judas would betray him, Peter would deny him and the rest of the disciples would abandon him. And as if that were not enough, hours later he voluntarily gave his life for them. Again, we are the means; we’re not the end. It’s not about receiving it’s about giving.

One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. PROVERBS 11:24 NIV

Effective leaders understand the power of giving; they understand that they will never have enough to satisfy every need. But they also understand that the more they give, the more God replenishes them so that they can continue giving. As leaders, our focus should never be on receiving, our focus should be on giving.

Two important areas to focus your giving on:

1. Time – Your talents and abilities are of no benefit to the body of Christ unless you purposefully separate time to use them to benefit others within the context of leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus. The problem with time is that you can’t recuperate lost or wasted time.

Teach us to realize how short our lives are. Then our hearts will become wise. – Proverbs 90:12 NIRV

2. Money - Your heart will always follow your money. Jesus said, “For where your money is, there your heart is”. The Bible teaches us that God is our provider and the Bible also teaches us that within his provision we receive bread to eat and seeds to plant to produce a great harvest of generosity.

For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. – 2 Corinthians 9:10 NLT

King David, the leaders, and the people generously gave their money and time to build a temple for God. And God has called us, the present generation to generously give of our time and money to build the church of Jesus Christ. The temple is a physical structure; the church is a gathering of people. King David’s purpose was to build a temple for God, even though God does not dwell in man-made temples. Our purpose is to build the church of Jesus Christ, a gathering made up of men and women inside of whom God wants to dwell. If King David and the people were willing to be a means to an end to build a temple for God, shouldn’t we be at least as generous with our time and money and become a means through which we can build the church of Jesus Christ?

For those of you who may not know, I live in the city of Doral and anyone who knows Doral, knows that it is a city surrounded by golf courses. So, every day, when I go out to walk my dog Dino, I usually come back with two or three golf balls. One day my wife asked me, why is it that when I walk the dog I never find any golf balls? I asked her, do you look for them? She said, no. I answered that’s why you never find them. The next time she walked the dog she came back and said, honey I found four golf balls. I asked her, how did you find them? She replied: I looked for them.

Every leader is unique, but every leader has the same goal. Leaders all share a desire to progress and to reach their distinctive goals. But let’s face it no matter how good a leader you are, a successful leader understands that having good luck is part of the equation. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. In leadership, good luck is what happens when readiness meets opportunities. But if good luck knocks at your door and you’re not ready, it’s too late to get ready. Since we don’t know when opportunity will knock at our door, we must be ready with the necessary tools and skills to meet opportunity.

Our goal at CDA Miami is to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus. My goal is to make sure that each one of our leaders, in spite of their unique duties and responsibilities, understands that a big part of our success is being prepared to meet the opportunities that may come our way. That is why as CDA Leaders we ask you to be ready by:

Committing to regular and timely attendance. – Regular and timely attendance is extremely important. It doesn’t matter how gifted or talented you are, if you’re not present and on time, opportunity will pass you by. Regular and timely attendance is like finding golf balls, you have to look for them. More than likely you won’t find golf balls in church but you will encounter people who you could help lead in a growing relationship with Jesus. The problem is you never know when opportunity might present itself. It’s like the parable Jesus told of the two groups of ten virgins, ten were ready but the other ten were not. Ten of them were blessed, while the other ten were not ready and at the last minute they sought to prepare themselves but it was too late.

Committing to come ready. – Regular attendance and timeliness are just one step toward readiness. We must also come prepared. Our “Worth It” principles are the core values that allow us to meet any opportunity that might present itself. The more familiar we are with them, the better prepared we’ll be to take advantage of the opportunities.

Committed to looking for opportunities. – The fact that you show up on time does not mean that opportunities will fall on your lap. Sometimes you have to look for them. We should never be so busy that we’re walking right by opportunities without noticing them. My wife walked the same route I walked but never found a single golf ball. But once she began to look for them, she found them. You may not see any opportunities, but believe me, you walk by them every day. Jesus said, seek and you will find.

Committed to creating opportunities. - Usually, on Sundays I’m responsible for sharing the Word. But on the Sundays that I can just sit down and receive, I’m searching the room looking for opportunities I otherwise could have not taken advantage of because I was preaching. If I don’t find any opportunity then I look around the room to create one. In the parable of the sower, a farmer went out to sow seeds. But this farmer was peculiar in that he sowed seeds where ever he went; some on the road, others in rocky places, some in shallow ground, some among thorns, and some on good soil. The sower understood that the good soil would produce the good fruit, but nonetheless, he sought out opportunities wherever he went. The truth is you never know what God can do.

Committed to taking advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. –My prayer is that our CDA leaders would always be committed to regular and timely attendance, to being ready, to looking for opportunities, or looking to create opportunities. But more importantly, I pray that they’d be committed to never letting an opportunity pass them by.

Para aquellos que quizás no lo sepan, yo vivo en la ciudad del Doral; cualquiera que conozca el Doral sabe que es una ciudad rodeada de campos de golf. Y, todos los días, cuando salgo a pasear a mi perro Dino, generalmente regreso a mi casa con dos o tres pelotas de golf. Un día mi esposa me preguntó, ¿por qué cuando yo salgo a pasear a Dino nunca encuentro pelotas de golf? Le pregunté, ¿las buscas? Ella me contestó que no. Le dije, por esa misma razón nunca las encuentras. La próxima vez que salió a caminar a Dino regresó y me comentó, hoy encontré cuatro pelotas de golf. Le pregunté, ¿cómo las encontraste? las busqué, me respondió.

Cada líder es único, y cada uno tiene su propia visión o responsabilidad, pero todo líder tiene una misma meta. Todos los líderes comparten el deseo de progresar y alcanzar su visión. Pero siendo sinceros, no importa cuán buen líder sea una persona, el líder exitoso entiende que el tener buena suerte es parte de la ecuación. Que a veces es cuestión de estar en el lugar correcto en el momento correcto. En el liderazgo, la buena suerte es lo que sucede cuando la preparación se encuentra con las oportunidades. Pero si la buena suerte llama a tu puerta y no estás listo, es demasiado tarde para prepararte. Y como no sabemos cuándo las oportunidades se van a presentar, debemos estar listos con las herramientas y habilidades necesarias para tomar ventaja de ellas.

Nuestro objetivo en CDA Miami es guiar a las personas a una relación creciente con Jesús. Mi meta es asegurarme de que cada uno de nuestros líderes, a pesar de sus distintas tareas y responsabilidades, entiendan que una gran parte de nuestro éxito se basa en estar listos y preparados para aprovecharnos de las oportunidades que se nos puedan presentar. Por eso, como Líderes de CDA, les pedimos que siempre estén listos.

Comprometidos a asistir consistentemente y puntuales. - La asistencia regular y puntual es de suma importancia. No importa qué tan dotado o talentoso seas, si no estás presente y a tiempo no podrás tomar ventaja de las oportunidades que se te presenten. La asistencia regular y puntual es como encontrar pelotas de golf, hay que buscarlas. Lo más probable es que no encuentres pelotas de golf en la iglesia, pero sí encontrarás personas a las que podrías ayudar a guiarlas a una relación creciente con Jesús. El problema es que nunca se sabe cuándo se presentarán las oportunidades. Es como la parábola que Jesús contó de los dos grupos de diez vírgenes. Diez de ellas estaban listas pero las otras diez no. Así que, diez de ellas fueron bendecidas, mientras que las otras diez no y en el último momento buscaron prepararse, pero ya era demasiado tarde.

Comprometidos a llegar preparados. - La asistencia regular y la puntualidad son solo un paso hacia el cumplimiento de la misión. También debemos venir preparados. Nuestros principios de “Vale la Pena” son nuestros valores fundamentales que nos permiten aprovechar cualquier oportunidad que pueda presentarse. Nunca deberíamos estar tan ocupados como para pasarles por un lado a las oportunidades sin darnos cuenta. Mi esposa caminaba por la misma ruta que yo, pero nunca encontró una sola pelota de golf. Pero una vez que comenzó a buscarlas, las encontró. Puede que no veas ninguna oportunidad, pero créeme que todos los días te pasan por el lado muchas de ellas. Jesús dijo que el que busca encuentra.

Pero este era peculiar en cuanto a que él tiraba las semillas donde quiera que iba. Algunas en el camino, otras entre pedregales, algunas en terrenos poco profundos, algunas entre espinos y otras en buena tierra. Y aunque el sembrador entendía que el buen suelo tenía más potencial de producir mejores resultados, no obstante, buscaba la oportunidad de sembrar en donde quiera que estuviese. La verdad es que nunca sabes lo que Dios puede hacer.

Comprometidos a aprovechar todas las oportunidades que se presenten. -Mi oración es que nuestros líderes de CDA siempre estén comprometidos en cuanto a asistir de manera regular y puntual, a estar listos, a buscar oportunidades o a crearlas. Pero lo más importante, oro a Dios para que se comprometan a nunca dejar pasar una sola oportunidad.

Este mes estamos celebrando nuestro mayor evento del año, Semana Santa. Crear este evento en muchos sentidos es similar a escribir un libro, ya que tiene muchos capítulos. Hay un capítulo sobre preparación y coordinación de eventos. Hay un capítulo sobre configuración y desglose. Hay un capítulo sobre juegos y eventos infantiles. Hay un capítulo sobre eventos juveniles. Hay un capítulo sobre lo que queremos que experimenten los adultos. Hay un capítulo sobre la preparación y manipulación de alimentos. Hay un capítulo sobre hospedaje, desde estacionar decenas de vehículos hasta atender a decenas de personas. Hay un capítulo sobre seguridad. Hay un capítulo sobre la limpieza durante y después de los servicios y puedo seguir y seguir. Pero al final del día, se supone que todos estos capítulos deben unirse para lograr un objetivo singular, compartir el Evangelio de salvación.

Como líderes nunca debemos olvidar nuestra responsabilidad personal de evangelizar. Que, a pesar de nuestros muchos deberes y tareas, nuestro objetivo final es decirle a los demás que “Dios amó tanto al mundo que dio a su Único Hijo...” Muchas veces, la palabra “evangelizar” puede intimidar, pero básicamente significa predicar acerca de algo o alguien. En nuestra cultura moderna, lo llamamos compartir. Compartir un mensaje es algo que todos hacemos. Si vas a un buen restaurante sales y compartes o predicas a otros sobre lo buena que era la comida. O, si ves una buena película, compartes con otros lo buena que fue la película. Evangelizar es lo mismo, es decirles a otros acerca de las buenas noticias de la salvación. Pero si soy honesto, compartir acerca de Jesús hoy en día no es una tarea fácil. Primero, porque vivimos en una sociedad secular que ve el mensaje de Jesús como algo ofensivo. Y segundo, porque podemos estar tan ocupados en el ministerio que se nos olvida nuestra responsabilidad personal de compartir con otros el evangelio de Jesús.

Como líderes de CDA siempre debemos:

I. Aprovechar todas las oportunidades que se nos presentan

Muchas veces, la oportunidad de compartir el Evangelio vive al lado de nosotros o se sienta en el escritorio junto a nosotros. O, incluso aparece en la iglesia el domingo. El problema es que podemos estar tan ocupados siendo buenos cristianos o llevando a cabo un ministerio que nunca compartimos con ellos las buenas nuevas de la salvación. Nunca dejes pasar una oportunidad, lo peor que puede pasar es que rechacen el mensaje. Pero lo mejor que puede pasar es que cambies el destino eterno de una persona.

II. Buscar oportunidades

Casi nunca encontrarás algo que no estés buscando. Debemos orar todas las mañanas para que Dios nos dé la oportunidad de compartir el evangelio. De paso, esa es una oración que Dios siempre responde. A veces, la oportunidad estará justo enfrente de ti, otras veces tendrás que buscarla. Pero no te preocupes, estas oportunidades no serán difíciles de encontrar, porque hay muchas personas heridas en el mundo que necesitan escuchar las buenas nuevas de salvación.

III. Crear Oportunidades

A veces tendrás que crear tus propias oportunidades. Invita a alguien a cenar, comparte una taza de café con un vecino, compañero de trabajo o amigo, inicia una conversación o da el mensaje con delicadez en una conversación. Pero cuando no encuentres la oportunidad de compartir, crea la oportunidad.

Como líderes de CDA, y aun más importante como cristianos, siempre debemos estar listos para aprovechar todas las oportunidades que tenemos enfrente, siempre debemos estar atentos a nuevas oportunidades y, cuando no podamos encontrar una oportunidad, debemos crearla.

This month we are celebrating our biggest event of the year, Easter. Creating this event in many ways is similar to writing a book, in that it has many chapters. There’s a chapter on event preparation and coordination. There’s a chapter on setup and breakdown. There’s a chapter on children’s games and events. There’s a chapter on youth events. There’s a chapter on what we want adults to experience. There’s a chapter on preparing and handling food. There’s a chapter on hosting, from parking dozens of vehicles to serving dozens of people. There’s a chapter on safety. There’s a chapter on cleanup during and after services and I can go on and on. But at the end of the day, all of these chapters are supposed to come together to accomplish one singular goal, to share the Gospel of salvation.

As leaders, we should never forget our personal responsibility to evangelize. That in spite of our many duties and tasks, our ultimate goal is to tell others that, “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” Oftentimes the word “evangelize” can be intimidating, but it basically means to preach about something or someone. In our modern-day culture, we call it sharing. Sharing a message is something we all do. If you go to a good restaurant you share or preach to others about how good the food was. Or, if you see a good movie you preach to others about how good it was. Evangelizing is the same thing, it’s sharing with others about the great news of salvation. But if I’m going to be honest, sharing about Jesus in today’s culture is not an easy task. First, we live in an ever-growing secular society that sees the message of Jesus as something offensive. And second, we can get so busy doing ministry that we forget our personal responsibility to share with others the Gospel of Jesus.

As CDA leaders we should always::

I. Take on the opportunities that present themselves.

Many times, the opportunity to share the Gospel lives next door to us or sits in the desk next to us. Or even better, it shows up at church on any given Sunday. And we can become so busy being a good Christian or doing ministry that we never share with them the Good News of salvation. Never let an opportunity pass you by, the worst thing that can happen is that they reject the message. But the best thing that can happen is that you change somebody’s eternal destiny.

II. Look for opportunities.

You are likely to almost never find something that you’re not looking for. We should pray every morning for God to give us an opportunity to share the Gospel. That’s a prayer that God will always answer. Sometimes the opportunity will be right in front of you, other times you’ll have to look for it. But don’t worry, these opportunities will not be difficult to find, because there are many hurting people in the world who need to hear the Good News of salvation

III. Create opportunities.

Sometimes you just need to create your own opportunities. Invite someone over for dinner, share a cup of coffee with a neighbor, co-worker or friend, start a conversation or gently force your way into one. If you don’t have an opportunity in front of you create one. As CDA Leaders but more importantly as Christians we should always be ready to take advantage of every opportunity, we should always be on the lookout for new opportunities and when we can’t find an opportunity we should always be ready to create one.

El autor John Maxwell dice que "todo sube o cae por el liderazgo". Y, es cierto, muéstrame una organización, negocio o familia exitosa y te mostraré un liderazgo exitoso. Y esto se debe a que el liderazgo en cualquier área es lo que más determina el éxito o el fracaso. Ahora, humildemente te pido que me permitas agregarle esto a lo que Maxwell dijo, “y cada líder sube o cae por su actitud”. Como líder cristiano, después de convertirte en un seguidor de Jesús, nada puede ser más importante que tu actitud. Tu actitud te causará bien o mal, te sanará o te hará daño, te dará seguidores o te dará enemigos, te dará éxito o te llevará al fracaso.

Cuando hablamos de “la actitud correcta” la tendencia es de verlo dentro del contexto de una actitud buena o mala, o una actitud positiva o negativa. Pero la verdad es que los líderes atravesarán tiempos buenos y malos, tiempos positivos y negativos. Sin embargo, lo que te mantendrá liderando de manera exitosa es tener una actitud HUMILDE. Piensa por un momento, ¿Verdad que no fue la actitud positiva de Jesús lo que causó que diese su vida por nosotros? Más bien fue su actitud de humildad lo que permitió que el Creador del mundo fuese crucificado por lo creado. Por supuesto que es importante tener una actitud positiva, pero cuando lleguen los momentos verdaderamente difíciles, no va a ser tu positivismo lo que te va a ayudar a salir adelante, va a ser tu humildad.

Tengan la misma ACTITUD que tuvo Cristo Jesús. Aunque era Dios, no consideró que el ser igual a Dios fuera algo a lo cual aferrarse. En cambio, renunció a sus privilegios divinos; adoptó la humilde posición de un esclavo y nació como un ser humano. Cuando apareció en forma de hombre, se humilló a sí mismo en obediencia a Dios y murió en una cruz como morían los criminales. – Filipenses 2: 5-8 NTV

Definiendo la humildad:

Si buscas la definición de humildad en la mayoría de los diccionarios, encontrarás que la palabra humilde se utiliza para definir humildad. Por ejemplo, se define la humildad como, “la calidad o el estado de ser humilde”. Bueno, eso no nos ayuda mucho. La palabra humildad tiene su origen en la palabra griega humilis, que simplemente significa "bajo". Y esto es exactamente lo que hizo Jesús, se rebajó a sí mismo, bajó del cielo no como rey, sino como sirviente y lo hizo de esa manera para ganarse nuestra confianza. Porque la humildad, como lo ejemplifica Jesús, es vivir tu vida con un propósito más grande que tú mismo. Por esto la humildad es el fundamento de la actitud correcta en el liderazgo.

Desarrollando Humildad :

No nacemos humildes, todo lo contrario, cuando nacemos somos extremadamente egoístas. Si tenemos hambre, estamos cansados, tenemos frío o calor, simplemente comenzamos a llorar y buscar atención sin ningún tipo de consideración por los demás. Por lo tanto, la humildad es algo que tendremos que desarrollar.

La humildad es parte de tu actitud, y una actitud de humildad se desarrolla a través del hábito de:

1. Concientizarte en cuanto a ti mismo para convertirte en un líder humilde, necesitarás saber quién eres y quién no eres. Y vas a necesitar conocer cuáles son tus talentos y habilidades y para qué fuiste diseñado por Dios.

Los prudentes saben a dónde van, en cambio, los necios se engañan a sí mismos. – Proverbios 14: 8 NKJ

Una vez que entiendes quién eres y quién no eres, y una vez que descubras cuáles son tus talentos y habilidades es cuando puedes comenzar a tener una actitud de humildad en el liderazgo. Es cuando comienzas a analizar quién eres y lo que tienes y cómo puedes ser útil para un propósito mayor que tú mismo.

2. La mansedumbre es estar consciente de que no eres el centro de tu vida. Es la disciplina de vivir tu vida considerando a los demás como más importantes que tú. Ahora bien, la mansedumbre no significa que pienses menos de ti, sino que pienses menos en ti y más en los demás. La mansedumbre está en desarrollar el hábito de usar quién eres y lo que tienes para el beneficio de los demás.

¿Quién es sabio y entendido entre ustedes? Que lo demuestre con su buena conducta, mediante obras hechas con la humildad que le da su sabiduría. – Santiago 3:13 NVI

3. Misión la humildad se desarrolla al vivir la misión para la cual Dios te creó, el guiar a las personas a una relación creciente con Jesús. Cumplir tu misión no puede lograrse sin humildad. Habrá buenos y malos tiempos. No obstante, lo que te ayudará a evitar que te enorgullezcas en tiempos de éxito será la humildad que proviene al estar comprometido de lleno a la misión. De igual manera, lo que te ayudará a mantenerte en pie en los tiempos malos no será necesariamente una actitud positiva, sino una actitud de humildad, la cual es inherente a la vida de aquellos líderes comprometidos con una misión más grande que ellos mismos.

Jesús se acercó entonces a ellos y les dijo: —Se me ha dado toda autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra. Por tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, enseñándoles a obedecer todo lo que les he mandado a ustedes. Y les aseguro que estaré con ustedes siempre, hasta el fin del mundo.

March 2022 | Attitude

Author John Maxwell says that, “everything rises or falls on leadership.” Show me a successful organization, business or family and I will show you successful leadership. The reason being is that leadership in any area and more than anything else determines success and failure. Now, I humbly ask that you allow me to add that, every leader rises and falls on their attitude. As a Christian leader next to becoming a follower of Jesus nothing can be more important than your attitude. Your attitude will make or break you, will heal or hurt you, will birth you followers or give you enemies, will birth success or lead you to failure.

The tendency is to talk about “the right attitude” in the context of a good and bad attitude or a positive or negative attitude. But the truth is that leaders will go through good and bad times, positive and negative times. What will keep you successfully leading is having a HUMBLE attitude. You see it wasn’t Jesus’ positive attitude that saw him through the crucifixion it was his attitude of humility that allowed the creator of the world to be hung on a cross by the created. Of course, it’s important to have a positive attitude but when push comes to shove, it’s not your positivism that will see you through, it will be your humility.

You must have the same ATTITUDE that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the HUMBLE position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he HUMBLED HIMSELF in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. – Philippians 2: 5-8 NLT

Defining Humility:

If you look up the meaning of humility in most dictionaries you’ll find that they use the word humble to define humility. For example, they define humility, as the quality or state of being humble. Well that’s not very helpful. The word humility has its origins in the Greek word humilis, which simply means, “low.” And that is exactly what Jesus did, He lowered himself, He came down from heaven not as a king but as a servant and not just for the sake of being down to earth. He did so in order to gain our trust. Because humility as exemplified by Jesus is, to live your life for a purpose greater than yourself.

Developing Humility :

We’re not born humble, quite the opposite when we’re born we’re extremely selfish. If we’re hungry, tired, cold, or hot we just start crying out for attention with absolutely no regard for anyone else. Therefore, humility is something that we’ll need to develop.

Humility is all about attitude, and an attitude of humility is developed through the habit of:

1. Self-awareness To become a humble leader you’re going to need to know who you are and who you are not. And, you’re going to need to know your talents and abilities and what you were designed to do best.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit. – Proverbs 14:8 NKJ

Once you understand who you are and who you are not and once you understand your talents and abilities that is when humility happens, when you start to analyze how you can be useful for a purpose greater than yourself.

2. Meekness the awareness that it is not all about you, the discipline of living your life considering others as more important than yourself. Now, meekness does not mean that you think less of yourself it means that you think less about yourself and more about others. Meekness is developing the habit of using who you are and what you have for the benefit of others.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. – James 3:13 NIV

3. Mission humility is developed through the living out of your God inspired mission to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus. Fulfilling your mission cannot be accomplished without humility. There will be good times and bad times. What will help keep you from developing pride in the good times will be the humility that comes from understanding and being committed to your mission. And, what will keep you going in the bad times will not necessarily be a positive attitude, but rather the humility that is inherent in the life of those leaders who are committed to a mission greater than themselves.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Como líderes de CDA Miami, nuestra misión es guiar a las personas a una relación CRECIENTE con Jesús. El objetivo es ver a las personas CRECER lo suficiente como para vivir sus vidas con la absoluta certeza de que Dios existe, que Él las ama incondicionalmente y que Él caminará a su lado todos los días de sus vidas. Ahora imagina por un momento que TÚ creyeras con absoluta certeza que Dios existe. Que es un Dios personal, que te ama incondicionalmente y que te conoce por tu nombre. Y, sin importar lo que pase en tu vida, Él siempre estará a tu lado. ¿Cómo cambiaría esto tu vida? ¿Cómo manejarías y priorizarías tu tiempo y recursos? ¿A qué temerías o por que te preocuparías si creyeras con absoluta certeza que Dios es quien dice que es, que te ama personalmente y que siempre estará contigo?

Para nosotros como líderes, el desafío es que estamos guiando a otros a un destino al que aún nosotros no hemos llegado por completo. Por lo tanto, cuanto más CRECEMOS en nuestra relación personal con Jesús, más podremos guiar a otros a una relación con Él. Como líderes tenemos muchas responsabilidades, pero ninguna debe ser más importante que CRECER en nuestra relación con Jesús. En realidad, sería completamente falso y prácticamente imposible llevar a otros a algún lugar al que no nos estamos dirigiendo nosotros mismos. Para nosotros como líderes, el problema no es que no hayamos llegado aun a una relación perfecta con Jesús, el problema es que muchas veces descuidamos hacer las cosas que nos permiten CRECER en nuestra relación con Él. Pero si por la gracia de Dios pudiésemos guiar a otros, pero descuidamos nuestro propio CRECIMIENTO, ¿Personalmente de qué nos serviría eso? Como dijo Jesús, ¿qué beneficio obtienes si ganas el mundo entero pero pierdes tu propia alma?

Cuanto más CRECEMOS en nuestra relación con Jesús, más podremos guiar efectivamente a otros a una relación CRECIENTE con Él. De hecho, cuanto más permitimos que Dios trabaje en nosotros, más podrá hacerlo a través de nosotros.

Dos cosas que Dios usa para que nuestra relación con Él CREZCA:

1. LA BIBLIA.

Leerla a diario, escuchar o estudiar la Palabra de Dios es una obligación para nosotros como líderes, pero no es suficiente. Si vamos a continuar CRECIENDO, en algún momento tenemos que comenzar a aplicar la Biblia en todos los aspectos de nuestra vida diaria. No es suficiente saber cómo Dios quiere que manejemos nuestro tiempo, recursos, escuela, trabajo, relaciones, ética y moral, también debemos aplicar la Palabra de Dios en todos y cada uno de los aspectos de nuestras vidas. Es cuando nuestra fe, mostrada a través de la aplicación de la Palabra de Dios, se cruza con su fidelidad que continuaremos experimentando el CRECIMIENTO.

“No solo escuchen la palabra de Dios; tienen que ponerla en práctica. De lo contrario, solamente se engañan a sí mismos.” – Santiago 1:22 NTV

2. LA ORACIÓN.

Así como la interacción diaria con la Palabra de Dios es un ingrediente importante para CRECER en nuestra relación con Dios, también lo es la interacción diaria con la oración. De hecho, el apóstol Pablo en su primera carta a los Tesalonicenses concluye diciendo: “Oren sin cesar”. Pero no es suficiente el simplemente agradecerle a Dios y entregarle tu lista de peticiones. Como líderes debemos orar para que Dios reciba toda la gloria y que se haga su voluntad en nuestras vidas. Muchas veces nuestras oraciones son un intento de hacer que Dios haga lo que nosotros queremos. Cuando, de hecho, la oración debe ser un instrumento que Dios utiliza para darnos la fuerza de voluntad necesaria para hacer lo que Él quiere que hagamos. Como líderes, nuestras oraciones no deben enfocarse tanto en lo que nosotros queremos, sino más bien deben enfocarse en lo que Dios quiere. Imagina que, en lugar de pedirle a Dios que haga lo que tú quieres, oraras y le dieras prioridad a preguntarle a Dios lo que Él quiere. Una vez más, es cuando nuestra confianza en Dios se cruza con su fidelidad que experimentamos CRECIMIENTO.

Imagina cuan efectivos seríamos guiando a otros a una relación CRECIENTE con Jesús si diariamente estuviéramos experimentando a Dios, no solo a través de la lectura de su Palabra sino también a través de la aplicación de la misma. Y si nuestras oraciones cambiaran de estar enfocadas en nosotros mismos a estar enfocadas en lo que Dios desea, te garantizo que no solo vamos a ser líderes más efectivos, sino que también habremos crecido en nuestra relación personal con Jesus.

Our mission as CDA Miami Leaders is to lead PEOPLE in a GROWING relationship with Jesus. Our goal is to see people GROW enough that they are able to live their lives with the absolute certainty that God exists, that He unconditionally loves them, and that He will walk by their side every day of their lives. Now imagine for a moment that YOU believed with absolute certainty that God exists, that he’s a personal God who unconditionally loves you and knows you by name. And, that no matter what happens in your life, he will always be by your side. How would your life change? How would you manage and prioritize your time and resources? What would you fear or worry about, if you believed with absolute certainty that God is who he says he is, that he loves you personally and that he will always be with you?

The challenge for us leaders is that we are leading others to a destination we ourselves have not yet fully arrived at. Therefore, the more we GROW in our personal relationship with Jesus, the more we will be able to lead others in their relationship with him. As leaders, we have many responsibilities, but none should be more important than GROWING in our relationship with Jesus. Actually, it would be completely disingenuous and practically impossible to lead others somewhere we’re not heading ourselves. The problem for us who lead is not that we haven’t arrived yet, the problem is that oftentimes we neglect doing the things that allow us to GROW in our personal relationship with him. But if by the grace of God, we were able to lead others yet neglect our own GROWTH, what good would that be for us personally? As Jesus said, what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

The more we GROW in our relationship with Jesus, the more we will be able to effectively lead others in a GROWING relationship with him. As a matter of fact the more we allow God to work in us the more He will be able to do through us.

Two things that God uses to help us GROW in our relationship with him:

1. THE BIBLE.

Daily reading, listening to, or studying God’s Word is a must for us as leaders but it’s not enough. If we’re going to continue to GROW, at some point we have to start applying the Bible in every aspect of our daily lives. It’s not enough to know how God wants us to handle our time, resources, school, work, relationships, ethics and morals we must also apply God’s Word in each and every aspect of our lives. When our faith shown through the application of God’s word intersects with his faithfulness that is when we will experience continuous GROWTH.

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” – James 1:22 NLT

2. PRAYER.

Just as daily interacting with God’s Word is an important ingredient for GROWING in our relationship with God, so is interacting with prayer on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, The Apostle Paul in his first letter to the Thessalonians closes by saying, “Pray without ceasing.” But it’s not enough to just thank God and hand off your list of petitions. As leaders, we must pray that God would receive all glory and that his will be done in our lives. Oftentimes our prayers are an attempt to get God to do what we want when in fact praying should be an instrument that God uses to give us the willpower to do what he wants. As leaders our prayers should not focus so much on what we want, rather they should focus on what God wants. Imagine if instead of asking God to do what you want, you’d pray and prioritize asking God what he wants. Again, it’s when our trust in God intersects with his faithfulness that we are able to experience GROWTH.

Imagine how much more effective we would be in leading others in a GROWING relationship with Jesus, if on a daily basis we were experiencing God, not only through the reading of his word but also through the actual application of it. And if our prayers changed from me-focused to God-focused, I guarantee you that not only would we become more effective leaders but we too will have grown in our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

January 2022 | Better

Those of us, who are privileged to have been called to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus, should hold a relentless commitment to doing things better. Doing things well should not be the goal, doing things better is what we should strive for. As leaders, there’s always room for improvement, and the urgency of our mission demands that we do nothing less than our very best.

BETTER YOURSELF

Often times leaders feel that they’re doing a good enough job therefore they don’t see the need to change. As leaders just as in life, if you’re not getting better at what you do eventually you’ll begin to fall behind. Progress and growth require that you better yourself.

If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.

— Ecclesiastes 10:10 NLT

Leaders are fueled by a desire to succeed. Success is the product of developing and sharpening the necessary skills to fulfill our mission. Here are some basic but fundamental and important tips that will help sharpen your skills and lead you to become a more effective leader.

BETTER YOURSELF PHYSICALLY

Most people do not take into account the impact of their health on their leadership until their health begins to fail them. The irony is that most illnesses are preventable. The problem is that good health requires that you eat right and exercise at least 30 minutes five times a week. Leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus is not a sprint but rather a lifelong process and the healthier you are the farther you’ll get.

For physical training is of some value …

BETTER YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY

It’s nearly impossible to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus if we ourselves don’t maintain a consistent relationship with him. It was Jesus himself who said, “without me you can’t do anything” and it was the Apostle Paul who said, “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me”. Studying the word of God and praying should be a daily routine in our lives.

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

They understand that the right thoughts will lead to the right actions that produce successful results. But they also understand that feeding ill-conceived thoughts will result in ill-conceived results.

Leadership is all about influence. Our ability to lead people will be determined by our ability to influence them. The better we become socially, the more successful we’ll become in leading them. The better the relationship the stronger the influence.

BETTER YOURSELF THROUGH EVALUATION

Evaluate your leadership; experience alone doesn’t make you better. It’s your evaluated experience that will make you a better leader.

Together at the Park

On Sunday, April 11th, our church has a rare opportunity to do something that we haven’t been able to do in over a year. That weekend, we will be gathering the entire church at the same time, in one location. We will be meeting at the Miami Equestrian Club for an 11am a worship service with live praise and worship and a special message from evangelist, Nicky Cruz. We’re calling this event, Together in the Park.

Paul wrote in Colossians 2 that “…Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it.”

This event on April 11th is not just a Sunday service. It’s an opportunity for our church body to grow together and be nourished by God. It’s also a great opportunity to invite people from outside the church to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ shared by a great man of God and friend of CDA Miami, Nicky Cruz. This is good news for your specific area of ministry, and this is good news for all of us.

As leaders of CDA Miami, let’s make the most of this opportunity that God has granted us. For this event to be as successful as we hope it will be, I’m going to ask you to do the following:

• Pray for every aspect of Together in the Park, but especially for many people to have an encounter with Jesus on that day

• Share this event as often as you can, in as many ways as you can. Please, don’t just share the details of the event like date, time, and location. Please note, this is not a festival-type event like we’ve had in the past at this location. It’s a Sunday service. Our Kids Ministry will also be there providing an environment where kids can also have fun while learning more about God.
